Questions of Perspective
“Questions of Perspective is an existential buddy novel driven by likable heroes, poignant moments, and unexpected humor that fans of The Blues Brothers and Neil Gaiman’s American Gods might appreciate.” –IndieReader
“This is a remarkable piece of fiction that everyone should read at least once in their lives.” –Readers’ Favorite (5/5 star review)
No one knew it at the time, but April 19, 2011, was the most important day in the history of the world.
After his only friend and colleague, John Manta, disappears without a word, Dave Randall further entrenches himself in the humdrum life of an unenthusiastic lawyer. But once he begins to understand what happened, he embarks on a journey to uncover the deeper meanings and implications of John’s fate.
Accompanied by Peaches the cat, Dave uproots his life and reinvents himself in the midst of his search. Along the way, he is haunted by his piecemeal understanding of John’s fate and what it means for his existence. Little does Dave know, his journey of self-discovery will have ramifications that extend far beyond the borders of his own little life.
A very satisfying and enjoyable novel!
“This is one of my favorite books of all time because of the way it made me think and feel on so many levels. It brought me to think about the possibilities we are all given in our lives, and how the choices we make can so change our futures. I loved the story and its characters, especially the incredible cat, Peaches. I couldn’t put the book down as the suspense and drama grew, and couldn’t stop thinking about how very enjoyable and satisfying the book was when I finished reading it. I feel Daniel Maunz is a very witty and creative writer whose first book details and gives such thought-provoking insights on life. Daniel Maunz has such a flair for expressing the stories that are within him, and I am so looking forward to all his future endeavors. Questions of Perspective is an all around winner for its engaging story line and characters, the flow of how it was written, and the joy and “perspective” it gave me on my life. It would truly make for a captivating movie.”

A compelling novel that asks the big questions
“In Questions of Perspective, Dave, a lonely attorney, discovers that his only workplace friend has become God and makes drastic changes to his life. After his friend John, who has inexplicably become God, shows Dave how God experiences the world, Dave quits his job, moves to remote Woodstock, New York, and begins spending his days hiking with his cat, Peaches. Eventually he becomes a teacher and falls in love, leading to a surprising conclusion. The friendship between Dave and Peaches is one of the strongest elements in this book, which avoids the pitfalls of too much explanation. We never find out why or how John became God, but to Maunz’s credit, we don’t really care. Dave’s voice carries us through the story, and about halfway through we realize how much we care about what might happen to him. I read this book in three days–always a good sign. Though the plot is simple, it’s a page-turner anyway. Well worth reading.”

Authentic and Original
“I really enjoyed this book. Maunz shares deep insights hidden inside a story about the banality and humor of life. He made me laugh so many times! You can enjoy it on the surface as a great story, but when you look deeper he presents some really interesting perspectives on meaning, prayer, and life itself.”

I could see this become a motion picture!
“This was an excellent read. I am amazed that this is the author’s first book and hope that he continues to write because he is so damn good at it. This story is a combination of great characters and their development throughout, going through a myriad of feelings and emotions, and a great conclusion that makes reading this book time very well spent. The author obviously has a great sense of humor which helped make this read even more enjoyable. I can easily envision this book as a terrific motion picture. I ordered a second copy for my daughter – it was that good!”

What a book!
“”I almost never write reviews but I had to this time. This is now one of my all time favorite books, and I have read a lot of books. The story goes someplace completely unexpected. It is so well written, with great character development. And a great ending too. I don’t even want to give away any of the plot – just do yourself a big favor and read it! But, start reading when you have time because you won’t want to put it down.”
